Check in/out not used
The Check in/out not used constraint turns check-in and check-out off for everyone the work time policy applies to. They register their work time as hours on the timesheet only.
When to use
Use this constraint when:
- A group, or a whole client, registers work time by entering hours and never checks in or out
- You want to remove the check-in buttons and the check in/out row so they do not confuse employees
Parameters
This constraint has no settings. It can only be added under Blocking constraints : it refuses new check-ins when they are made, so there is no warning-only version.
How it works
For everyone the policy applies to:
- Timesheet — the Check in/out row is hidden, on desktop and on mobile
- Dashboard and top bar — the check-in buttons and the running clock are hidden
- New check-ins are refused — both a live check-in and a check-in/out entered by hand. The employee sees Check-in/out is turned off for this employee
What stays possible:
- Checking out. Someone checked in when the constraint is added still sees their running session and can check out, so they are not left checked in.
- Existing records. Earlier check-ins are kept. They stay visible in the check in/out report, and an administrator can still correct or delete them.
- Time registrations. The timesheet works as before.
Whether check in/out is off is decided by the work time policies that apply to the employee today. Work time policies stack, so one applying policy with this constraint is enough.
Related constraints
Constraints that rely on check-ins have nothing to work with under this constraint:
- Mandatory Check-in — never combine the two. It requires a check-in on every working day, which nobody on this policy can make, so every working day would be flagged.
- Attendance Matches Registrations — never fires without check-ins.
- Allow future registration and Limit backdating — their check-in/out settings have no effect.
To make sure every working day still has hours registered, use Mandatory Time Registration, or rely on the built-in rule that a working day must have registered work time.
Examples
Turn check in/out off for one client
Work time policies stack, so the tidiest way is a small policy of its own rather than editing one other people share:
- Go to , click Add Policy and select Work Time Policy
- Name it something like No check in/out and leave the norm, the other constraints and the auto-registrations empty
- Under Blocking constraints , click Add Plugin and choose Check in/out not used
- Under Availability , choose the org units or employment terms it applies to
- Click Save
The next time those employees open the dashboard, the check-in buttons are gone, and their timesheet shows only time registrations.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Check in/out is still showing | Make sure the policy with this constraint applies to the employee today, under Availability |
| An employee still sees a running clock | They were checked in when the constraint was added. It disappears once they check out |
| Old check-ins are missing from the timesheet | The row is hidden, not deleted. Use the check in/out report to see them |
| Every working day is flagged Missing check-in/out | Mandatory Check-in is on another policy that applies to the same employees. Remove it for this group |
