Registered by
The Registered by plugin decides which roles may register a time-off type on the employee’s behalf — and, by the same stroke, that the employee never registers it themselves. Use it for leave that HR or a manager records for the employee.
When to use
Some absences are not something an employee asks for — they are something the organisation records about them:
- Parental leave (barsel) and the leave types around it
- Unpaid leave
- Garden leave
- Carer’s leave
For these, an employee filing the absence themselves is not a request awaiting approval; it is a registration they were never entitled to make.
Parameters
| Parameter | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Roles that may register it | One or more of this workspace’s roles — standard ones like Manager and HR Administrator, and any custom roles you have defined. | Required |
How it works
This is an additional condition on top of the ordinary right to create time off — never a replacement for it. By the time the plugin runs, mTime has already decided whether the person at the keyboard may record an absence for this employee at all. The plugin adds two things:
- They must not be the employee the absence is for. This is checked first, and it does not matter which roles the employee holds — being a manager yourself does not let you register your own parental leave.
- They must hold at least one of the roles you picked.
If either fails, the type is not offered on the request form for that person, and submitting it is refused.
Why roles, not permissions
Every employee may create time off for themselves — that is how anyone requests time off at all. So a rule written as a permission check would let through exactly the self-registration this plugin exists to prevent. Roles are what an administrator actually reasons about: “HR and line managers enter barsel.”
Bulk registrations
When time off is registered for many employees at once, the roles of the person who started the bulk change are what count. A bulk change started by someone without a permitted role is refused per row, like any other registration.
Examples
Parental leave entered by HR or a manager
- Add the Registered by plugin to the policy
- Under Roles that may register it , pick Manager and HR Administrator (or your own HR role)
The employee’s own request is refused. Their manager may record it, and so may an HR Administrator.
Leave only HR records
- Add the Registered by plugin
- Pick only your HR role
A line manager cannot enter it; only someone holding the HR role can.
Error messages
An employee who tries to register the type for themselves sees “This type is registered on your behalf, not by you.”
Someone registering on an employee’s behalf without one of the chosen roles sees “Your role may not register this type on someone’s behalf.”
In both cases the type is left off the request form for that person, so the message appears only if the request reaches the server another way.
