Advance Notice

The Advance Notice plugin requires time-off requests to be submitted a minimum number of days before the time off starts. This helps managers plan coverage and prevents last-minute absences.
When to use
Use this plugin when:
- Company policy requires advance notice for vacation requests
- Different time-off types need different notice periods
- You want to distinguish between working days and calendar days
Parameters
| Parameter | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Min notice days | Minimum days between request submission and start date. | Required |
| Count weekends | Whether weekends count toward the notice period. When turned off, only business days (Monday–Friday) are counted. | On |
How it works
The plugin calculates the number of days between when the request is submitted and when the time off starts:
- Compares the request submission date to the requested start date
- Counts either calendar days or business days based on configuration
- Blocks requests that don’t meet the minimum notice requirement
Calendar days vs. business days
With Count weekends turned on:
- A request submitted Monday for the following Monday = 7 days notice
With Count weekends turned off:
- A request submitted Monday for the following Monday = 5 business days notice
- Saturdays and Sundays are not counted
Examples
Two weeks advance notice
Standard policy requiring 14 calendar days notice:
- Add the Advance Notice plugin to your policy
- Set Min notice days
to
14 - Leave Count weekends turned on
Five business days notice
For policies that measure notice in working days:
- Add the Advance Notice plugin
- Set Min notice days
to
5 - Turn off Count weekends
This means an employee must submit their request at least 5 working days (one full work week) before the time off begins.
Minimal notice for sick-adjacent time
Some time-off types may only need 1 day notice:
- Add the Advance Notice plugin
- Set Min notice days
to
1 - Leave Count weekends turned on
Error messages
When a request doesn’t meet the notice requirement, employees see a message indicating:
- The minimum notice days required
- How many days notice they actually provided
- The earliest date they could request time off starting
